Help us celebrate the birth of J.R.R. Tolkien–born January 3, 1892–by dressing up as your favorite character and heading to the Egyptian to see the last LOTR movie The Return of the King on January 20th, 2018. Name something better to do on a January Saturday (or any Saturday)!
Last year we did an all-day, three-movie marathon. It was a ton of fun, but pretty brutal on the keister. So this year, we’re going to break the trilogy up by doing one movie a week.
Life is good as a Hobbit. You get to eat, drink, garden, eat, smoke your pipe, live in an underground house, eat, go barefoot, avoid boats, never have to shave, and eat. What’s not to love?
Oh jeez, this really isn’t going well, is it? Uh, well. Look… Oh man.
On Saturday, January 20, 2018 at 6:ooPM, Frodo’s heading up to the back door of Mordor. That’s got to be better than trying the Black Gate, right? It’s not like the pass is guarded by some ancient spider that’s an offspring of a creature that left the entirety of Middle Earth in darkness for a few thousand years. That seems unlikely. Plus Gollum is more of a Smeagol now. He’ll get them through the pass, as long as Sam’s still around to keep him in check.
And Minas Tirith is mighty strong, too. It’s led by Denathor, the Steward. His son Faramir is a standup guy, so they’re probably a lot alike. Gandalf will surely be on good terms with Denathor. That should go smoothly.
The Rohirrim Horse Lords handled Saruman’s army tidily. They can handle the Witch King’s army from Minas Morgul. I mean, how many can there be? And then they can take out the Haradrim from the south, as long as they’re all on foot.
And then Aragorn. I mean, he’s the rightful King! He’s comfortable with that, isn’t he? Well isn’t he?
